On 3-3 vote, competing Eugene city auditor proposal stays alive

In the January 18, 2018, issue of the Register-Guard, reporter Christian Hill writes:

With opposing Eugene city councilors unable to block its path, a competing city auditor proposal moved another tentative step toward the May ballot on Wednesday.

In a rare 3-3 vote, Eugene city councilors defeated a motion by Councilor Emily Semple to stop all work on the proposed city charter amendment, which would create an auditor overseen by the council. Because Semple’s stop-work motion was a tie, it failed.

The vote came as city councilors made initial comments on a draft of the proposed amendment presented by Glenn Klein, a former city attorney who continues to provide legal counsel. …
